Montebello, California- December 10, 2016 The California Miramar University Falcons came to play tonight but they didn’t play hard enough to beat the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills, who defeated them 58-83.
The Toros who were led by forward Mikey Hatfield with 18 points and 8 rebounds dominated the game. They took advantage of missed shots and executed the fast break with precision. They also exploited the Falcon’s zone defense by scoring 21 of their points from 3 point range.
Even though the Falcons loss this was one of their most solid games this season. Aside from being out rebounded, they had moments greatest. Guard Derrick Davis was able to find center Steven Adams in the paint with a couple of behind the back passes that dazzled the crowd.
Devin McDonough was the leader of team with 15 points and 7 rebounds. AJ Mathis was strong offensive contributor with 16 points. And forward Christian Mora remains one of the most consistent players on the team with 7 points and 2 rebounds.
Coach Chris Shade believes The Falcons were the better team they just couldn’t control the boards. Shade said, “They beat us in rebounding. We slowed down our turnovers and improved our ball movement, but not capitalizing on rebounds hurt us.”
The Falcons who are in there first season have struggled to win a game. But every game shows the true potential of the team. They have two weeks off then they play Life Pacific on December 30th and Occidental on the 31st.
