Message from Head Coach Tony Rosa:
I have played soccer all my life and I still do with a group of friends. I started playing in the streets and beaches of Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil 1959-1964. We moved to Santa Clara, California in 1964 and I started playing in the adult league called the Peninsula Soccer League in the San Jose area. I received a full ride scholarship to San Jose State University and finished in 1975 with a Scholar Athlete Award. Success on the field and in the classroom is very important to me, and I strive to help my athletes achieve success in both areas.
I have coached at many age levels; girls, boys, men, women. I enjoy coaching the college level players the most because most college level players can play well. The difference the coach can make with their experience can then make a big impact, for example, with the systems they use, the tactics they use, and the skills they emphasize to get the most from their athletes. In the past, I have helped players become professional players.
I measure my success not only in wins, but also in the growth of the players as players and as people. As you can see, I value academics and the students’ success in the classroom as very important to me.
I bring passion, pride, energy, determination, knowledge, and experience to the Women’s Soccer Program. I’m committed to establish a successful program here at California Miramar University for many years to come.
